Pori Moni named in Forbes' '100 Digital Stars' list

Popular Bangladeshi actor Pori Moni has been selected as one of the honorees for Forbes Asia magazine's '100 Digital Stars' of 2020.

According to the prestigious magazine, the list includes "celebrities [who] have maintained their relevance and popularity in this challenging period by leveraging on the power of social media. Many have also used their influence to support worthy causes, especially those with a Covid-19 focus."

With nearly 10 million Facebook followers, the 28-year-old actor and model Shamsunnahar Smrity, popularly known as Pori Moni, has dominated the Bangladeshi film industry in recent years.

In recognition of her status as a celebrity role model, Forbes has named her in the list of 'Asia Pacific's Most Influential Celebrities on Social Media.'

Souh Korean band BTS, actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth and others have made it to the list alongside Pori Moni, who is the only Bangladeshi celebrity to have done so.

The magazine revealed that finalists were determined on the basis of their 'combined social media reach and engagement.'

Earlier, Pori Moni bagged the Best Actress (Critics) Award at 2019 CJFB Performance Awards for her role in Amar Prem Amar Priya.

Pori Moni, who started her career with modelling before her big break in 2015 with Bhalobasha Shimaheen, is a celebrated star in Bangladeshi media.
