Pori Moni, Raz placed on 4-day remand in narcotics cases

A Dhaka court has placed Dhallywood actor Pori Moni and her manager Ashraful Islam Dipu on a four-day remand each in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Movie producer Nazrul Islam Raz and his manager Sabuj Ali have also been put on remand for four days each in a separate narcotics case.

Rejecting the bail petitions of the accused, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid passed the remand orders on Thursday evening.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the two cases with Banani police station earlier on Thursday.

A mini bar was found at Pori Moni’s Banani residence where she regularly arranged parties, according to RAB.

Raz and his syndicate used to supply foreign liquor and different kinds of drugs for the parties, said RAB Director (Legal and Media) Commander Khandaker Al Moin at a press briefing at RAB headquarters on Thursday.

Raz was helped in such activities by one Shariful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan and Masudul Islam alias Jisan, RAB has found.

On the basis of information provided by Mishu and Jisan, RAB conducted multiple raids in Banani on Wednesday, arresting Pori Moni, her manager Ashraful Islam, and Raz and his manager Sabuj Ali in the process.

RAB Director Moin said 33 bottles of different types of foreign liquor, more than 150 used foreign liquor bottles, yaba tablets, LSD and “ice” were recovered from Pori Moni’s home.

According to RAB, the syndicate run by Raz used to host DJ parties in several upscale areas, including Gulshan and Banani, and supply illegal drugs, using the parties as a cover.

People belonging to the upper class were the usual attendees of such parties.

Pori Moni, whose real name is Samsunnahar Smriti, hit the headlines in June after demanding justice on Facebook after she was allegedly subjected to torture at Dhaka Boat Club on June 8.

On June 14, she filed a case against businessperson and former Uttara Club president Nasir U Mahmood and five others, charging them with attempting to rape and murder her.

Following the filing of the case, law enforcers arrested Nasir, who later claimed that Pori Moni and her companions had been in a drunken state on the night in question.

Later on June 16, All Community Club President KM Alamgir alleged that Pori Moni and her friends had run amok at the club late on June 7.
