Court orders CID to return 16 items seized from Pori Moni

A Dhaka court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police to return to Dhallywood actress Pori Moni 16 items, including her car and laptop, which were seized as evidence during a raid at her home back in August.

Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder on Tuesday issued the order to CID Inspector Kazi Mostafa Kamal, who is the investigating officer (IO) in the drugs case filed against Pori Moni.

The actress, who had moved the court on September 15 to get the items back, was also present in court during Tuesday’s proceedings.

After her lawyer Nilanjana Rifat filed the appeal with the court, it had directed the IO to submit a report on those seized items.

On Sunday, the CID submitted the report, saying returning these items will not obstruct the investigation.

The actress, whose real name is Shamsunnahar Smrity, was arrested during the August 4 raid carried out by Rapid Action Battalion at her Banani residence.

The force later filed the narcotics case against her with Banani police the following day.

On August 31, another Dhaka court granted her bail in the case, in which she was remanded multiple times.

The next day Pori Moni was released from jail -- 27 days after her arrest.
