HC stays appeals board decision of announcing Nipun as BFAA GS

The High Court on Monday stayed the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association election appeal board’s decision that declared actress Nasrin Akhter Nipun as the general secretary of the organisation unopposed, disqualifying actor Zayed Khan as a candidate.

The court also asked the election appeal board headed by film director Sohanur Rahman Sohan to explain within seven days the legality of its decision disqualifying Zayed’s candidature on the ground of misconduct during the casting of the vote on January 28.

An online bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman granted the stay after hearing a writ petition filed by Zayed on Sunday.

The court also set February 13 for hearing of the rule.

Lawyers Yusuf Hussain Humayun, Ahsanul Karim and Nahid Sultana appeared for Zayed while Nipun was defended by lawyer Rokanuddin Mahmud.

Actor Zayed Khan contested in the BFAA election as a general secretary candidate and was elected in the election but later was declared disqualified as a candidate for misconduct during the election on January 28.
