Hours after her arrest, a Gazipur court sent actress Mahiya Mahi to jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act today.
Gazipur Metropolitan Magistrate Md Iqbal Hossain passed the order after she was produced before the court with a seven -day remand prayer in the case, GMP Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam said.
At a press conference, the GMP commissioner said, "A petition was filed before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for Mahi. The court did not grant the remand prayer and ordered to send Mahi to jail."
While being taken to the jail from the court, Mahi told reporters, "The judge did not speak to me for once. He didn't say a word. He simply sat down in the chair and got up. How can a court end in one second?"
Around 11:45am, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) arrested Mahi from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when she returned to Dhaka from Saudi Arabia this morning, reports our local correspondent quoting the GMP commissioner.
She went to perform Umrah in Saudi Arabia with her husband, the the commissioner, adding that her husband Rakib Sarkar did not return to Bangladesh with her.
