Bangladeshi crew drowns in Malaysia ship capsize

A Bangladeshi crew has drowned and another went missing when a cargo ship capsized in the sea in Johor of Malaysia.

Another Chinese crew of the also died in the accident that took place in Tanjung Sepang waters at Kota Tinggi on Tuesday afternoon.

Identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Johor director First Admiral maritime Aminuddin Abdul Rashid said the accident took place around 2pm on Dec 25.

“Based on information from the vessel’s captain, the ship sustained damage to its engine causing its wheel ship to be inoperative.

Later, two bodies were recovered at 7:45pm on that day.

The Bangladeshi captain of the ship, Nizam Ul Haq, said “The ship's generator lost its powerand strong waves started hitting the ship. That's why I lost control over the steering."

According to the sources, there were nine crewmembers onboard the vessel at the time of accident. Of them, six were rescued, two drowned and one is still missing.
