At least five Bangladeshis died of coronavirus infection in the state of New York in the last 24 hours.
With the five, a total of 233 Bangladeshis have so far died after being infected with the virus in the US, Zakaria Masud, editor of local weekly Ajkal and former president of Jackson Heights Bangladeshi Business Association, told The Daily Star today.
Ninety percent of Bangladeshis who have died of Covid-19 in the US were from New York so far, he said quoting local authorities.
Masud said the US government has already declared special facilities for Bangladeshis who have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic, adding that they will get the benefits for the next 36 weeks.
The US government also announced a stimulus package for business owners, added the Ajkal editor.
