BMDA officials late to office; 2 Rajshahi journos attacked for reporting

Two journalists of ATN News came under attack on the premises of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) when they were on duty.

Md Rubel Islam, camera person of the private television channel, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with injuries on his lips and right ear, hospital sources said.

Another journalist Bulbul Habib was also assaulted during the attack. Bulbul works for The Business Standard also.

According to the witnesses and the victims, a section of staffers launched the attack on them around 8.30am,

The journalists went to BMDA premises around 8.20am and started a live telecast on how the government officials are responding to the new office timing.

When BMDA Executive Director Abdur Rashid came to know the matter, he started shouting at the journalists.

Moments later, a section of BMDA staffers swooped on the journalists and beat them up. They also damaged the television camera during the attack.

On the first day of the new office timing, the news channel showed that different government officials of Rajshahi including BMDA were not following the new office timings.

During that live, they showed most BMDA officials including the chairman and executive director could not reach the office on time.
