Women must speak out about sexual harassment

Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra (BNSK) has urged the formation of committees for prevention sexual harassment in all organizations.

BNSK made the demand at a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Sunday, held to protest sexual harassment of a female journalist of private television channel ETV.

Speakers at the demonstration demanded justice for the female journalist, who reportedly faced sexual harassment from Chief Reporter of ETV MM Sekandar.

The organization also said the women must speak out regarding any sexual harassment at workplace or anywhere else.

“Every organization should form a committee for the prevention and mitigation of sexual harassment. We have to stop sexual harassment in workplaces,” Nasimun Ara Haque, president of BNSK said.

On February 4, a Dhaka court placed MM Sekandar on a two-day remand in a case filed over allegations that he sexually harassed a female co-worker.

The victim also shared her experience on Facebook with the hashtag MeToo (#MeToo).
