Police charged baton on a human-chain demanding the release of Shahedul Islam Sifat—a student of Stamford University’s film and media studies department and a crew member of slain Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan—who was arrested following Major Sinha’s murder in Cox's Bazar.

Four students—Md Rubel, Md Raihan, Md Imran, and Mithun, were injured during the incident.

"During our peaceful protest, a team of police suddenly came and snatched our banner and told us to stop our demonstration. When we declined to move, Bamna police station OC Ilias Hossain started threatening the protesters and instructed his force to charge baton," said Rubel.

Around 300 local demonstrators including Sifat's classmates took part in the human-chain protest on College Road in Bamna upazila of Barguna at 12pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Bamna police station Officer-in-Charge Ilias Hossain termed the participants as miscreants.

"We arrived at the scene after getting complaints that some miscreants were carrying out a human-chain without permission and stopped them for carrying out anti-state activities," he added.

Sifat along with his classmates Shipra Rani Debnath and Tahsin Rifat Noor was in Cox’s Bazar to shoot a travel documentary for Sinha’s YouTube channel named “Just Go.”

Sifat, who accompanied Sinha at the time of the incident, was arrested right after the killing of the former Army major and he was sent to jail in a case filed by police.
