Sinha’s companion Sefat released on bail

Sinha’s companion Sefat released on bail

A court in Cox’s Bazar on Monday granted bail to Shahadul Islam Sefat, one of the two arrested companions of slain retired army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, in two cases filed against him.

Senior Judicial Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar, Tamanna Farah, granted the bail after hearing petitions filed by Sefat’s lawyers.

Sefat’s lawyer Mahabubul Alam Tipu confirmed the matter adding that the court also accepted their prayer for changing the investigation officer of the cases.

The court asked RAB-15 to investigate the cases, he said.

Cox’s Bazar District Jail superintendent Mokammel Hossain said that Sefat was released at around 2:30pm.

Another court in Cox’s Bazar earlier on Sunday granted Sinha’s another companion Shipra Debnath bail, paving the way for her release on the same day.

Sinha, who took early retirement from the Bangladesh Army, was shot dead at a police checkpoint on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive at Shamlapur under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on July 31.

Two of the former major’s associates — Shipra Debnath and Shahadul Islam Sefat — were also arrested following the incident.
