Wasa recommends to reappoint Taqsem as managing director

The board of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) has recommended that engineer Taqsem A Khan be reappointed as managing director once again for the next three years.

The recommendation was made at a virtual board meeting of Dhaka Wasa on Saturday.

AKM Hamid, a member of Dhaka Wasa board, confirmed the matter after the meeting.

Now the recommendation will be sent to the Local Government Department (LGD) for approval.

The recommendation means Taqsem will be reappointed as Dhaka Wasa chief.

The recommendation to reappoint Tasqem came five days after he was rebuked by the High Court for his negligence in disconnecting sewerage lines in the Buriganga.

However, engineer Waliullah Sikder, a member of the board, claimed that he was opposed to the proposal for Taqsem’s reappointment.

He raised the corruption issue relating to Taqsem and demanded the formation of a probe committee to investigate the charges of corruption.

Taqsem A Khan was appointed managing director of Dhaka Wasa in 2009 and subsequently reappointed five times, despite allegations of corruption against him.
