BNP’s doa mahfil attacked by BCL men in N'ganj; 30 hurt

At least 30 people, including BNP chairperson's adviser Taimur Alam Khondaker, were injured in an attack allegedly by a group of Chhatra League men at a programme of BNP in Rupganj of Narayanganj today.

Nagarik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Supreme Court Bar council executive member advocate Mar-e-um Khondaker were among the injured.

A doa mahfil (prayer ceremony) was arranged at the house of Taimur Alam Khondaker for the recovery of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from illness this afternoon, said Maksudul Alam Khandaker Khorshed, president of Narayanganj city unit Jubo Dal.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna was present at the programme as the chief guest, said Maksudul Alam, also councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation.

During the programme, at least 50 to 60 activists of BCL suddenly attacked them with hockey sticks, machete and homemade weapons, alleged Maksudul Alam.

They also attacked Manna, Taimur Alam and Mar-e-um Khondaker and pushed them off the stage, alleged the Jubo Dal leader.

At least 20 people were injured in the attack, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting Maksudul Alam.

The attackers also vandalised some vehicles and motorcycles at that time, he alleged.

Taimur told our correspondent that Rupganj thana unit Chhatra League President Faisal Shikder led the attack.

Rupganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Hasan said they did not receive such complaint yet. "We are looking into the matter," he said.

Contacted, Faisal Shikder denied the allegation of attack.
