‘Death in custody’: Rayhan’s mother, relatives go on hunger strike

Salma Begum, mother of Rayhan Ahmed who was allegedly tortured to death in Sylhet city's Bandarbazar police outpost, and his relatives started hunger strike in front of the outpost since this morning, demanding capital punishment for all the police personnel involved with the incident.

"Names of all the responsible persons will come to light once they (who are in custody) are taken in remand," she told journalists around 11:00am.

She demanded arrest of Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, former in-charge of the police outpost.

"We will continue our hunger strike until all the culprits are arrested," she said.

Rayhan (33),of Sylhet city's Neharipara, died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital at 7:50am on October 11 after being admitted by police.

His wife filed a case with Kotwali Police Station, accusing several unnamed and stated that Rayhan was tortured inside Bandarbazar Police Outpost for money.
