Facebook files lawsuit against facebook.com.bd

Social media platform Facebook has filed a lawsuit against facebook.com.bd with the Dhaka District and Sessions Judge Court seeking a compensation of $50,000 (Tk42,37,145).

Earlier the world’s largest social media site, Facebook, sent legal notice multiple times to take down the domain using the same name in Bangladesh.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Moksadul Islam said that the court may hold the hearing of the matter on December 1.

Earlier on Thursday the lawyer appointed by Facebook informed the media that the social media site is going to take legal action against the A1 Software Limited.

The lawyer said that Facebook is the most widely circulated social media in the world and according to the law no one can open a same domain name.

However, A1 Software Limited, a Bangladeshi company, opened a new domain using the same name of Facebook. Also, they want to sell this domain at a worth of $6 million. Facebook sent legal notice multiple times to stop the domain but the company did not respond.
