COVID-19 positivity rate drops below 4pc in Bangladesh

The COVID-19 positivity rate dropped to 3.96 per cent in the past 24 hours ending 8:00 am on Thursday as the country witnessed a decline in the test positivity rate in the last few days.

In the past 24 hours, 584 COVID-19 patients were detected after a test of 14,761 samples, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

With the numbers, the country’s COVID-19 cases rose to 5, 30,271.

Bangladesh on March 8 confirmed the first cases of COVID-19 and the first death on March 18.

The country is now on the 46th week of infections.

The overall positivity rate in the country is now 15.08 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.50 per cent.

In recent days, the positivity rate was ranging from five to six per cent.

In the past 24 hours, 16 people died of COVID-19, taking the death toll from the virus to 7,966.

Among the deceased, one died at home in the past 24 hours.

Since mid-May, at least 748 COVID-19 patients died outside hospitals, including 714 at home and 34 on the way to hospitals.

Among the 16 new deceased, 13 were from Dhaka division and one each died in Chattogram, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.

Nine of the deceased were above 60 years of age and three were between 51 and 60 years.

So far 4, 75,074 COVID-19 patients have recovered, including 602 in the past 24 hours.
