‘20-party’s lone goal freeing Khaleda Zia, restoring democracy’

Dhaka, Feb 26 (Just News): Bangladesh Nationalist party (BNP)-led 20-party allegiance has got now the only goal of re-establishing democracy by freeing Begum Khaleda Zia, leader of an alliance partner said on Monday.

President of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Dr. Colonel (Retired) Oli Ahmed, claimed that the verdict over Zia Orphanage Graft case is nothing but a 'mockery' as the government has already made the judiciary 'controversial'.

He was addressing a roundtable as chief guest at National Press Club's VIP Lounge arranged by Liberation Rights Movement.

Oli Ahmed said, 'Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina uses to say that she does not afraid of death but we think she is very much afraid of fair election and democracy'.

Oli asked the BNP leaders to be more unified and re-think about their opponent and comprehend them sincerely and also urged the leaders to clarify about the expected duties from alliance parties in the time of poll if Khaleda remains behind the bar.

Speaking as special guest, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Dr. Emajuddin Ahamed, said, many in BNP are not fully satisfied with the peaceful manner of protest because they want more strong movement. Prof Emajuddin, however, reminded them of Khaleda Zia's instruction to remain non-violent.

He said, "I think BNP is now more unified, more integrated and efficient than any other time but the government thought sending Khaleda to jail they can manage to break her party."

He asked the educated and conscious members of the party to be vocal about the conspiracy about the graft case and suggested them to highlight the reality before the public through their writings in mass media.

BNP central executive committee member Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah, LDP senior joint secretary Shahdat Hossain Salim, addressed the programme, among others, with Dr. Kazi Moniruzzaman Monir, president of the organization, in the chair.
