Eight people jailed for life for killing Turag man

The Dhaka's Special Judge's Court-5 on Thursday sentenced eight people to life imprisonment in a case of killing a man under Turag police station in 2008.

Judge Iqbal Hossain also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each or six months in jail for killing Alek Mia in Nalbhog area under the police station on June 25 of the year.

The convicts are - Alal Uddin, Joynal Abedin, A. Razzak, A. Sattar, A. Jabbar, Awal Mia alias Awal, Samar Ali alias Samar and Tamiz Uddin alias Tamu.

The judge also sentenced the accused Sohail Rana, Sohrab Mia, Babul Mia alias Babul and Firoz Mia to one-and-a-half year jail and acquitted Barek, Mostafa, Md. Omar Faruk of the case.

According to the case statement, Alek died falling from the roof of a building after being beaten and hit with wrought iron by the accused.

His younger brother Haji Ramzan Ali later filed a murder case with Turag police station.

On November 25, 2008, the investigating officer of the case, sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman of Turag police station, filed a charge sheet against the accused.

During the trial of the case, the court took the testimony of 15 out of 28 witnesses.
