Trump aide Lisa Curtis due in Dhaka Friday

Dhaka, Mar 1 (Just News): Lisa Curtis, the deputy assistant to US president Donald Trump, will arrive in Dhaka on Friday on a three-day official visit.

The senior US official is likely to meet prime minister Sheikh Hasina, foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, security adviser to the PM Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique and foreign secretary Md Shahidul Haque during her visit to discuss bilateral and security issues and the Rohingya crisis.

Lisa Curtis is a senior director for South and Central Asia at the White House National Security Council.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, US ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat confirmed Lisa’s visit.

“She will be visiting the (Rohingya) camp in Cox’s Bazar,” the Ambassador said.

Earlier on February 16, foreign secretary Shahidul Haque visited Washington and met Lisa Curtis. During the visit, they discussed bilateral, regional and global security issues.

The foreign secretary invited her to visit Bangladesh and Curtis accepted the invitation at that time.

Curtis conveyed US president Trump’s appreciation for Bangladesh for hosting more than a million forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar.

Before joining the White House, she was a senior research fellow on South Asia in The Heritage Foundation.
