10 more die at RMCH Covid units

Ten more patients died at the Covid units of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in 24 hours ending Thursday morning.

Of the deceased, five were positive for Covid-19 while the rest ones died with symptoms of Covid infection, RMCH director Brigadier Shameem Yazdany told New Age.

He said that seven of the dead were from Rajshahi district, and one each was from Chapainawabganj, Natore, and Naogoan districts.

According to the RMCH officials, a total of 171 patients died in the Covid units of the hospital in the ongoing month.

Brigadier Shameem Yazdany said that 44 new patients were admitted to the hospital’s Covid units in the past 24 hours while a total of 358 patients were taking treatment at the units, now having 305 beds.

He said that they had tested samples of 557 people in two PCR labs in the last 24 hours and confirmed 193 new cases of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Rajshahi district administration extended its ongoing restrictions on public movement and business activities in the city corporation areas until June 24.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the district administration at the Circuit House on Wednesday evening, said Rajshshi deputy commissioner Abdul Jalil.
