22 more deaths reported at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital

Covid-19 has claimed 22 more lives at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the last 24 hours, according to hospital sources.

With the latest tally, Covid deaths in the RMCH has climbed to 411 as of July 23, already surpassing the hospital’s death toll in June, RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani said on Friday.

Of the newly deceased, six had tested positive for Covid, 15 had symptoms, and one died of post-Covid complications.

Eleven of the deceased were from Rajshahi district, four from Chapainawabganj and Pabna each, two from Natore and one from Naogaon.

 

Fourteen of the deceased were men, and eight women. Eight of the victims were aged above 61 years, eight between 51 and 60 years, three between 41 and 50, two between 31 and 40, and one between 21 and 30 years.

RMCH Director Yazdani said 66 samples from Rajshahi were tested in two labs on Thursday evening. Of them, 22 tested positive, at the test positivity rate of 33.33%.

The RMCH director further said 61 new patients were admitted at the hospital’s Covid unit in the last 24 hours, while 62 patients were released after full recovery. As of 6am Friday, 412 patients are undergoing treatment for Covid at the hospital. Twenty patients are being treated at Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Of the 412 patients, 186 have tested positive for the pandemic disease, while 173 have symptoms and are awaiting their test results. Besides, 53 patients are admitted with post-Covid health complications.
