7 dead, 4 injured in Cox’s Bazar road accident

At least seven people were dead when a microbus fell into a pond around 10am today, after the driver lost control over the wheels while trying to save a pedestrian on Cox's Bazar-Chattogram road.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md Zubair, confirmed the incident, our correspondent reports.

Quoting locals and eyewitnesses, the OC said, while attempting to save a pedestrian, the driver lost control over the wheels and the microbus hit an electric pole -- finally falling into a pond.

Seven people died on the spot, said the OC, adding that four more were injured and taken to the Chakaria Upazila Health Complex.

Six of seven deceased were identified as Purnima Rudra (30), her child Sarthak Rudra (3), her mother-in-law Rani Rudra, Ratan Vijay Dey (52), his wife Madhumita Dey (40), pedestrian Hajera Begum (55) and an unidentified woman (around 25).

The bodies were kept at Chakaria Upazila Health Complex.
