Registration for Covid vaccines will depend availability: Zahid

The authorities, from now on, will allow registration for Covid-19 vaccination depending on the availability of the vaccines.

‘We will not use the term mass before the Covid-19 vaccination programme anymore. We don't want to see long queues at the vaccination centres,’ said health minister Zahid Maleque on Monday after the weekly cabinet meeting at the secretariat.

He said only those who had received the messages would go to the centres.

He said that Bangladesh government had agreed to procure 10.5 crore doses of vaccine from the World Health Organisation and six crore doses from China.

The health minister said the government had a plan to vaccinate seven to eight crore people by January next year.

Around two crore people are now waiting for jabs after registration.

Many complained that they could not register themselves in Surakkha online as the government recently lowered the age limit to 18 years for students from 25.
