At least three people were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Tangail Highway at Panchiabazar of Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Islam, 32, son of Motahar Ali of village Panchlia and also the driver of the auto-rickshaw van, and Haidar Ali, 70, and Shahadat Hossain, 55, residents of the same village and also the passengers of the van.
Hatikumrul highway police officer-in-charge Shahjahan Ali told New Age that the road accident took place as a North Bengal-bound cavard-van from Dhaka ran over the auto-rickshaw van on the highway at about 6:30am.
All the passengers and the driver of the autorickshaw died on the spot, the OC said.
The bodies were recovered from the spot and handed over to the families, the OC said, adding that a case would be filed in this connection.
The cavard-van driver, along with the vehicle, managed to escape the spot, he added.
