Fiction writer Bulbul Chowdhury dies

Ekushey Padak winning fiction writer Bulbul Chowdhury died at his residence at Pyari Das road in the capital on Saturday. He was 73.

Atal Chowdhury, son of Bulbul Chowdhury, confirmed the news.

‘My father passed away at 5:50pm at our home at Pyari Das road,’ said Atal Chowdhury.

Bulbul Chowdhury, born on August 16, 1948 in Dakshinbag under Gazipur, was suffering from cancer. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina provided financial assistance of Tk 10 lakh from her Relief and Welfare Fund for his treatment in May.

Bulbul Chowdhury is survived by his wife and three sons.

Besides Ekushey Padak, he received Bangla Academy Literary Award, Humayun Qadir Smriti Purashkar, Jasimuddin Smriti Puraskar and others.

His books include Tuka Kahini, Pormanush, Machher Raat, Choitar Bou Go, Aparup Bil Jhil Nodi, Kohokamini, Tiyaser Lekhon, Achine Anchari, Morom Bakhani, Ei Ghore Lakshi Thake, Itu Boudir Ghor, Dakhina Bao, Jiboner Ankibnuki, Atoler Kathakatha, Gaogeramer Golpogatha, Prachin Gitikar Golpo, among others.
