Covid claims 79, infects 3,062 more in Bangladesh

Covid claimed lives of 79 more people and infected 3,062 in Bangladesh in 24 hours ending Wednesday morning.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 26,274 and infections to 15,03,680 since the country had recorded the first Covid infection on March 8, 2020, and death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.

The daily test positivity rate is 10.11 per cent.

Among the deceased, 43 are male and 36 are female patients.

The Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics on its daily Covid press release.

A total of 30,294 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 789 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 89,58,639 samples as of September 1.

In the past 24 hours, 5,999 patients recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 14,31,984.

In case of the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death toll of 28 and Chattogram logged 23 deaths.

A least 23 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Satkhira.

Among them, 12 were Covid patients, nine had symptoms and the remaining one had post-Covid complications.
