Nearly 300 Ashrayan houses were damaged with hammers and shovels: PM

Sharply criticising those who have hammered down houses built under Ashrayan Project-2 for the landless people, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said that she has received full details of the culprits after an investigation.

"In different places, some people damaged nearly 300 houses with hammers and shovels, and the media captured the pictures of those houses," she said.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing a meeting of the Awami League Central Working Committee held at her official residence Gono Bhaban.

"The houses were constructed for the poor. Some people are so evil that they've damaged those. How could they this?" she wondered.

The Prime Minister said there were allegations of corruption in nine sites under the Ashrayan Project-2.

Hasina said the government has so far built 1,50,000 houses and handed those to the poor on the occasion of Mujib Borsho.

"A quarter with vested interest intentionally spread falsehood of corruption involving the houses. Some houses have been damaged by landslides due to heavy rains," she said.

She said the government is moving ahead facing all these odds and obstacles, and urged AL leaders and workers to be more vigilant.

Hasina, also Awami League chief, thanked all, including the masses for their unwavering move to help the government make the project a successful one.
