Train accidents kill 4 in 3 districts

Four people were killed and several were injured in separate train accidents in Brahmanbaria, Khulna, and Jhenaidah districts.

In Brahmanbaria, two siblings were killed and their father was injured when a train hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Talshohor level crossing in Ashuganj upazila early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Rubel, 33, and Pavel, 23 – two sons of Sadek Mia of the upazila.

Confirming the matter, Ashuganj police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Dharmajit Sinha, said that the Dhaka-bound mail train from Chittagong hit the auto-rickshaw carrying four people while it was passing the level crossing, leaving Pavel dead on the spot and two others injured.

Injured Rubel and his father Sadek Mia were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared Rubel dead.

In Khulna, a 50-year-old man was killed as a train crushed him on Phulbarigate level crossing in Khulna city on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Anwar Hossain, was a speech and hearing-impaired man of Maheshwarpasha Banikpara area of the city.

The Khulna-bound train from Jessore hit him on the level crossing around 1pm while he was heading towards a shop, leaving him dead on the spot, said SI Asad of Khanjahan Ali police station.

In Jhenaidah, a man was crushed to death by a train near the Baluhar area of Kotchandpur upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, 55. He was a resident of Rajarpur village.

Kotchandpur Railway Station Stationmaster Golam Mostafa said: “Sirajul was crushed under the Dhaka-bound Sundarbans Express. Railway police recovered his body and took it to Jessore.

“We are suspecting that Sirajul commited suicide.”
