Editors’ Council concerned over BFIU seeking 11 journo leaders’ bank details

Sampadak Parishad (Editors' Council) has expressed concerned over Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) seeking bank account details of 11 journalist leaders.

In a statement issued today, Sampadak Parishad said BFIU recently sought bank details of 11 journalist leaders of four important organisations, including the president and general secretary of Jatiya Press Club.

Sampadak Parishad, in the statement, said based on allegations, probe against an individual can be carried out according to law. But seeking bank details of 11 leaders -- belonging to the same profession -- is ill-motivated and unprecedented, it said.

The organisation thinks that such incident is a threat to independent journalism.

On behalf of the Sampadak Parishad, the statement was issued by its President Mahfuz Anam and General Secretary Dewan Hanif Mahmud.
