Following arrest of its chairman and managing director, the office of Evaly was shut today amidst concern of thousands of customers, suppliers and staff, whom the company owes money.

Visiting Dhanmondi road-14, locks were seen hanging at the entrance of Evaly's office on the 2nd and 3nd floors of the building.

"The office will reopen with permission following completion of investigation -- authorities," read a notice hung at the entrance.

However, Evaly, in a post on its official Facebook page, wrote that the employees of the organisation will work from home and the company's service will go on as usual.

"From Saturday, September 18, 2021, until further notice, Evaly employees will conduct office activities from their respective homes. All Evaly activities will continue as usual in the home-office system," reads the virtual notice.

The company's Vice President Mahdi Chowdhury's mobile phone was found switched off when our reporter tried to to contact.

Meanwhile, many customers were seen crowding in front of the office for their goods and money.

Masood Parvez, a customer, and a driver by profession, said he ordered a bike worth Tk 1.17 lakh in January. The bike was supposed to be delivered within three months. But till today, he has neither received a bike nor refund, he claimed.

"It was very hard-earned money. It was a poor man's money. If I don't get it back, it will be a great loss," Masood said.

Many demanded that the government must take measures to return their money even if the MD and chairman have to be released for that.

Rab arrested Evaly CEO Mohammad Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin, also the chairman, on charges of embezzlement on Thursday.

The duo was placed on three-day remands each yesterday.
