Mobile data down for users across the country

Mobile phone users across the country are facing issues with their mobile data since Friday morning. 3G and 4G internet services are reportedly down for almost all the operators across the country, although WiFi and broadband internet services are still up and running.

Several users and subscribers have reportedly been facing disruption while trying to use mobile internet services. Grameenphone has seemingly acknowledged the issue with an SMS notice to subscribers saying they are aware of the outage and are working to fix the issue in collaboration with the concerned authorities.

When contacted, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar told that, "It could have been due to a technical glitch and we are trying to identify the issue. Mobile internet services will be back again any time now."

A spokesperson from BTRC was not immediately available to comment on the issue at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, users who rely on mobile data for business purposes, particularly in remote areas of the country, are left clueless. Sharmin Akhter, who runs an online home-cooked meal business in Khulna, mostly relies on 4G mobile data in absence of reliable broadband connections. "Weekends are usually my busiest days and I start getting orders from the morning. Today, however, everything's on hold. If this issue does not get fixed soon, I'll incur a heavy loss," said Sharmin.

Many others also reported similar concerns due to this unprecedented outage.

According to the sources, 3G and 4G internet services were first down in Cumilla and surrounding areas on Thursday. Later, customers in Cox's Bazar, Brakshanbaria and several other districts also faced disruptions in using mobile data.
