10 more held over puja mandap attacks in Chattogram

Police have arrested 10 more people, including four leaders of former DUCSU vice president Nurul Haque Nur's organisation Youth Rights Council, over their alleged involvement in the attack on mandap at JM Sen Hall in Chattogram.

The arrestees were identified as NM Nasir Uddin, Convener of Bangladesh Youth Rights Council Chattogram Metropolitan, Secretary Engineer Mizanur Rahman, Office Secretary Emon Mohammad and Convener of Bayazid thana Dr Russell while the others are- Yar Mohammad, Md Mizan, Giyas Uddin, Yasin Arafat, Habibullah Mizan and Imran Hossain.

CMP's Kotwali police sources said the ten were arrested from Thursday midnight to Friday noon in a drive conducted in different parts of Chattogram city including Chawkbazar, Teribazar and Sholoshohor.

Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said the attackers were identified from the CCTV footage and photos of the incident after the attack.

He said the interrogation of the arrestees revealed the evidence of their involvement with attacking the JM Sen Hall mandap on Friday after carrying out a procession from the city's Anderkilla to protest the recent incident in Cumilla.

Earlier, police filed a case under the Special Powers Act against 83 named and at least 500 unnamed accused over last Friday’s incident with Kotwali Police Station.
