A section of Rabindra University students has once again started a hunger strike as no decision was made about the termination of its faculty member Farhana Yasmin Baten at the university's syndicate meeting yesterday.
"Our movement will continue till a decision is taken about the accused teacher," Nazmul Hasan Papon, spokesperson of the agitating students, told The Daily Star today.
The probe body on Thursday submitted its report against Farhana, former chairman of the Department of History and Cultural Heritage of the university who was accused of forcefully cutting the hair of 14 students.
"Although a syndicate meeting was held yesterday, no decision was taken there. Nothing more can be said about it right now," said Rabindra University Registrar Sorhab Ali.
After learning about the matter, the students resumed protest around 9pm yesterday. At one point, they took up position in front of the academic building, demanding termination of Farhana. Among them, seven students started the hunger strike.
On September 26, Farhana Yeasmin asked university employees to cut the hair of male students who had long hair before they entered examination halls. One of the students tried to die by suicide following the incident.
The university authority formed a five-member probe committee headed by Laila Fardous, chairman of the Rabindra Studies department, on September 28.
