Police Bureau of Investigation arrested Ehteshamul Hoque, a prime accused in Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder case in Chattogram, from Jashore on Friday.
PBI inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma, investigation officer of the case, said that Ehtesham gave confessional statement before the Chattogram metropolitan magistrate Shafi Uddin on Saturday afternoon.
Ehteshamul Hoque was arrested several times in the case and released on bail.
On September 15, the High Court granted a four-week bail to Ehteshamul Hoque on condition of surrendering before the lower court.
Later Ehteshamul Hoque surrendered before the Chattogram Metropolitan session judge court on October 11 and sought bail again. The court rejected the bail petition.
Mitu was stabbed and shot to death on June 5, 2016 when she was going with her son to his school bus stop at the port city’s GEC Intersection.
Her husband Babul Akter, then a police officer, filed a case after the murder.
PBI submitted final report on May 12 this year and the investigators found Babul Akter’s involvement in Mitu murder during five years of investigation.
Babul Akter turned to be the prime accused in wife’s murder case as Mitu’s father Mosharaf Hossain filed a fresh case on May 12, 2021 accusing Babul.
The other accused in the case are Kamrul Islam Sikdar alias Musa, 40, Ehteshamul Hoque alias Haniful Hoque alias Bhola, 41, Md Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, 27, Md Anwar Hossain, 28, Md Khairul Islam alias Kalu, 28, Md Saidul Islam Sikder alias Saku, 45, and Shahjahan Mia, 28.
