Injured survivor Mehedi attends janaza of loved ones

Dhaka, Mar 19 (Just News): A survivor of the US-Bangla Airlines plane crash in Nepal’s Kathmandu has attended the namaz-e-janaza of the 23 identified Bangladeshi victims at Army Stadium in Dhaka.

Mehedi Hasan, still with cannula for his saline drip and a support on his neck, said with teary eyes that he came even in this condition only to bid farewell to his cousin and niece.

Mehedi, the survivor, also sustained injuries on his head and neck and is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after he returned home along with two other family members who also survived the crash.

His cousin FH Priok, a Bangladeshi travel photographer, and Priok’s daughter Tamarra Priyonmoyee, are among the 23 identified victims of the tragic plane crash.

FH Priok, his wife Almun Nahar Annie, daughter Priyonmoyee, cousin Mehedi and Mehedi’s wife Shwarna, were on their way for a family trip to Nepal in the fateful flight of US-Bangla Airlines that crashed at the Tribhuban International Airport in Kathmandu while landing.

Mehedi told the Bangla daily that they were seated side by side on the rear of the plane, adding that he sat on the window side.

About 10-15 minutes before the crash, the announcement for landing was made asking the passengers to fasten their seat-belts, he said.

As they all fastened their seat-belts, Mehedi saw from the window that the plane’s landing gear was deployed. Everything was alright until the plane collapsed after touching the ground, Mehedi said.

After the plane crash-landed, it was torn apart, he said, adding that he and his wife managed to come out of the wreckage of the plane’s body.

Mehedi added that he would return to the hospital after attending the janaza.

Priok’s wife Annie, who was also admitted to DMCH, has gone to Sreepur of Gazipur where Priok and his daughter are likely to be buried.
