Chief Justice suspends judicial functions of SC today in honour of Justice FRM Nazmul

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique has suspended all judicial functions of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court for today, as a sign of respect to Supreme Court judge Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan who passed away on Friday.

Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan, who was elevated as judge of the Appellate Division from the High Court Division on January 9, died from Covid-19 infection while receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University at 6:15am on February 4 at the age of 67. He could not take oath as a judge of the Appellate Division due to his illness.

While presiding over a full bench of the Appellate Division for hearing and disposing of cases this morning, the chief justice said all judicial proceedings of the Appellate and High Court Divisions will be suspended for the day to pay tribute to Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan.

Earlier in the day, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin requested the chief justice to suspend the judicial functions of the Appellate and HC Divisions for the day.

Senior lawyers Khandker Mahbub Hossain, AF Hasan Ariff, Fida M Kamal, Md Munsurul Hoque Chowdhury, AFM Abdur Rahman, Ajmalul Hossain, Momtaz Uddin Fakir, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Supreme Court Bar Association Secretary Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal supported Attorney General and urged the chief justice to close the functions of the Appellate and HC Divisions for today.
