DGHS orders to shut down unregistered clinics, diagnostic centres within 72 hours

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has ordered all unregistered hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centres in Bangladesh to be shut down within the next 72 hours.

If the facilities are still reported to be operating after the given period, legal action will be taken against them, DGHS Director (Hospital) Dr Md Belal Hossain told Bangla Tribune on Thursday.

The decision came at a meeting held by health officials under the leadership of Additional Director General (Administration) Ahmedul Kabir on Wednesday.

The officials have also decided to take strict measures against unregistered health workers who assist doctors and nurses administer anesthesia to patients or take part in operation theatres.

Registered facilities must update their licenses within a stipulated time. If they fail to renew the papers, then the organization will be shut down by DGHS.

Meanwhile, institutions that have already applied for the renewal of their licenses must expedite the process, as they cannot operate without updated papers, the officials said.
