Dhaka, Apr 1 (Just News): BNP-led 20-party alliance will participate in the upcoming Khulna and Gazipur city corporation elections scheduled for May 15.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the announcement after emerging from a meeting with the party's senior leaders at Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office in Dhaka this evening.
Earlier in the day, BNP senior leaders held the meeting to finalise whether the party will join the upcoming city polls of Khulna and Gazipur.
On Saturday, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the elections schedule of Gazipur and Khulna city corporations for May 15.
According to the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination papers is April 12, while the dates for scrutinising those are April 15 and 16; and the last date for withdrawal is April 23.
BNP candidates Moniruzzaman Moni and Prof MA Mannan were elected mayors in Khulna and Gazipur respectively in 2013 polls.
