Eid rush continues: 35km tailback on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway

The severe traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway that started since Thursday night (July 7, 2022) has no signs of abating till today (July 9, 2022).

Around 8am today, a 35km tailback was reported in Tangail due to an increase in number of vehicles on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway.

Homebound people were in immense distress as hundreds of vehicles carrying people, goods, and cattle inched forward very slowly on the highway due to the long tailback.

Around 8am, Bangabandhu Bridge's traffic control room sources told The Daily Star that heavy traffic pressure persisted on both sides of the bridge all night long and continued to this morning, just like it did all day yesterday. This congestion spread across the bridge briefly earlier today briefly halting toll collection.

Asaduzzaman, a Sirajganj-bound passenger, said he left Dhaka at 7:30pm yesterday and was stuck in a jam at the eastern end of Bangabandhu Bridge around 8am. "When will I be able to return home? This journey has been the most painful of my life," he said.
