Six killed in Chattogram road crash

At least six people were killed as a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway at Patia in Chattogram district on Monday evening.

One of the deceased is Md Ismail, son Nabab Mia, of Patiya upazila, the police said, adding that Ismail was the driver of the auto-rickshaw.

Identities of the other victims could not be known until 11:00pm.

Patia Crossing Highway police officer-in-charge Md Mozffar Hossain told New Age that seven more people were injured in the accident at about 8:15pm.

Mozffar said that five of the deceased are male and the remaining one is a female.

The police officer said that the bus was heading to Chattogram from Cox’s Bazar and hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving five passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot.

The bus also fell into a roadside ditch as the driver lost control over steering leaving at least seven passengers of the bus injured.

He said that the police and fire service rescuers recovered the bodies and rescued the injured ones.

The injured people were sent to hospital for treatment, he said.

Inspector Rashedul Islam of Patiya police station told New Age that one more victim who was a passenger of the bus succumbed to injuries at Patiya Upazila Health Complex at about 10:00pm.
