BNP slams ‘obstruction’ to visit Khaleda Zia

Dhaka, Apr 4 (Just News): BNP on Wednesday alleged that the government is obstructing their ailing chairperson begum Khaleda Zia's personal physicians from visiting her in Old Dhaka Central Jail.

"The government is repressing our chairperson Khaleda Zia. The government is hurting her little by little after snatching her right to get bail and all other rights," said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office, he also said they still could not know the real health condition of their 73-year-old chairperson. "Her personal physicians are being barred from giving her proper treatment in jail."

He alleged that though the High Court granted her bail, it was stayed at the behest of the Prime Minister. "Getting bail is any person's a right, and staying it as per the directive of the head of the government is a sheer violation of human rights."

Describing the current regime as an internationally recognised autocrat, Rizvi said it is depriving their party chief of her due rights in jail.

He claimed that the country's people want the government to release Khaleda from jail immediately. "There has been huge resentment among people as the government is resorting to ploys over her release."

The BNP leader warned that their party will not sit idle for long if the government does not free her from jail.

Rizvi alleged that the country's financial sector is facing ruination due to unbridled corruption and plundering by the ruling party men.

He alleged that most of the banks are also now in a very sorry state due to widespread plundering. "Awami League has now turned into a college of corruption where it is taught how to plunder thousands crore of taka."
