Another Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrim dies in Saudi Arabia

A Bangladeshi pilgrim and resident of Mymensingh Mumtaz Begum, 49, died after performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

She passed away on Sunday in the holy city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.

With the latest development, a total of 22 Bangladeshis including 15 men and seven women died while performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia so far.

Meanwhile, 9,964 pilgrims have returned back to the country after performing Hajj until July 17.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, 27 return Hajj flights have been operated since July 14.

Among these, Biman Bangladesh Airlines operated 11 flights, Saudi Airlines operated 13 flights and Flynas operated three flights.

No one from Bangladesh could go to perform Hajj for the last two years due to Covid-19. This year, Saudi Arabia decided on the quota based on each country.

Accordingly, a total of 60,146 pilgrims including members of the Hajj organization, got the opportunity to go to Saudi Arabia to perform this worship. Hajj was held on July 8.

A total of 165 Hajj flights have flown from Bangladesh to carry Hajj pilgrims from Bangladesh.

Among them, Biman Bangladesh Airlines transported 30,363 pilgrims in 87 flights. Saudi Airlines transported 23,919 pilgrims in 64 flights. Flynas transported 5,864 pilgrims in 14 flights.

The Hajj journey to Saudi Arabia began on June 5 and ended on July 5.
