HC asks ACC to probe allegations against asset of Ramna OC

The High Court on Sunday directed the Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct an inquiry into the allegations against Ramna Police Station's officer-in-charge Monirul Islam of amassing huge amount of wealth illegally within three months.

A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat gave this order.

The ACC told the court that it has decided to investigate into the huge possessions Monirul acquired despite of working as a ninth grade official of the state.

Supreme Court lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon brought to the attention of the High Court regarding the matter.

When the court drew the attention of ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan, he opined that there should be an inquiry in this matter. Later, the court asked Suman to file a petition in the High Court seeking an investigation.

According to a report published in a national daily on August 4, OC Monirul is building an eight-storey and a duplex house in Dhaka. He also has four plots in Keraniganj and Munshiganj.

Besides, there are accusations of occupying house of a freedom fighter in city's Mohammadpur Housing Society against him.

According to police sources, as far as information is available, the amount of his assets is much more than this.

At present, he gets a maximum salary of 50 to 70 thousand Taka in the scale of 22 thousand Taka in the ninth grade. The concerned persons believe that he has become the owner of this wealth through irregularities and corruption.

Monirul Islam joined the police service as a sub-inspector in 1992, when this post was of third grade. In 2012, he got promoted and became a police inspector.

He was in Dhaka range most of the time in his service life of about 30 years.
