Do you want to face sanctions like Rab, Mirza Fakhrul asks police

Mentioning US sanctions on Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has asked police whether they want to see such sanctions imposed on them as well.

"Do you want to see sanctions imposed by the people of Bangladesh?" he asked.

He came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion programme held at Mahanagar Nattamancha in Dhaka's Gulistan on the occasion of BNP's 44th founding anniversary.

"We never want to make the police an opponent. The police will cooperate for the rights of the people, their democratic rights, right to vote, right to live, and the police members will also participate in the fight against those who are doing injustice, shooting people dead, forcibly occupying power like the Pakistani occupation forces," he said.

"We are not against any forces... Will we accept if they shoot and kill our people?" he added.

The BNP secretary general claimed, "When BNP started the movement against the problems of the people, protest against the increase of prices of fuel oil, rice, pulses and oil, then they are killing our fellow fighters and colleagues as before."
