Myanmar army fires two mortar shells inside Bangladesh territory

Myanmar military aircrafts fired at least two mortar shells inside Bangladesh territory at Tamru in Bandarban on Saturday morning, five days after their envoy in Dhaka was summoned and handed over a protest note for a similar incident on August 28.

The Latest incident was reported at about 9:30am at Tamru in Ghumdhum area of Naikhyangchari upazila in Bandarban, which is located around six kilometres away from Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban police and civil administration officials said.

Border Guard Bangladesh spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Fayzur Rahman said that they were collecting information about the incident.

Bandarban police superintendent Tarikul Islam said that no causality was reported so far.

According to the police investigation centre at Ghumdhum, two fighter jets and two military chopper hovered along the Bangladesh territory in the morning.

The fighter jets fired at least eight bombs while the chopper fired over 30 bombs, the police officials said.

Bandarban police chief said that two of those bombs exploded some 120 metres inside Bangladesh territory.
