A tense situation was prevailing at the area when upazila unit BNP and upazila unit Chhatra League called rally at the spot tomorrow (September 5, 2022), said police and locals.

According to locals and police, Patharghata upazila unit BNP has called for a protest rally which was announced by BNP central committee to protest against the recent price hike of fuel oil and essential commodities.

The programme is scheduled to be held tomorrow (September 5, 2022). To attend the programme, former MP and BNP leader Nur Islam Moni left Dhaka for his Nachnepara village in Patharghata upazila with his motorcade.

"As soon as his convoy entered Nachnepara village, local Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders attacked his convoy. Attackers set fire on several motorcycles. 50 Leaders and activists of BNP including Moni and Upazila unit BNP convener Chowdhury Md Faruk were injured in the attack," said Tariquzzaman Titu, member secretary of Barguna district unit BNP.

Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Titu blamed that Chhatra League and Jubo League jointly launched the attack.

Denying the attack, Walid Makki, president of Patharghata upazila unit Chhatra League said, "Patharghata Upazila Chhatra League has called for a demonstration and protest rally tomorrow (September 5, 2022) to protest against the BNP-Jamaat's terrorist activities and anarchy across the country".

"We don't know if there is any other programme called by any other party," he said, adding that if anyone makes any statement which will instigate anarchy or makes any derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, then it will be strongly resisted by Patharghata upazila unit Chhatra League.
