Ctg DC says BNP-Jamaat should pray for AL victory in next polls

Chattogram deputy commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said that the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its ally Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami should pray so that the ruling Awami League can come to power again.

Mominur made the comments on Thursday while he also prayed for the victory of ruling Awami League-nominated candidate ATM Peyarul Islam for the chairman post in the upcoming zila parishad elections.

The DC took part in the prayer after receiving the nomination paper from the AL-nominated candidate.

The DC said ‘I accepted the nomination of ATM Peyarul Islam for the post of chairman of the zila parishad… The leaders of Chattogram district and the city unit of the Awami League are present here. Let me say something. Domestic, foreign, and international conspiracies are going on to destroy the way Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.’

‘There is economic turmoil all over the world due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Even Europe-America has been affected. But our exports have not been affected...’, he said.

‘Bangladesh's national parliament election is next year. I think this election is the most important election since the birth of Bangladesh. Because this election will decide whether the state power of Bangladesh will be in the hands of the pro-independence and sovereignty forces or in the hands of the anti-independence forces.’

‘I think that if the power is in the hands of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, then in our country, including the Awami League, BNP, and Jamaat, everyone will be safe. I think BNP-Jamaat should also pray for Sheikh Hasina to come back to power,' the DC said.

AL nominated chairman candidate for Chattogram zila parishad polls ATM Peyarul Islam, Chattogram city unit AL's acting president, Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, Chattogram south district AL president, Moslem Uddin Ahmed, and north district AL president and incumbent zila parishad administrator, MA Salam, among others, were present.

Mominur could not be reached for comment on the issue on Friday, despite repeated attempts.
