Five injured as BCL factions clash on Ctg College campus

At least five activists of Chattogram College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, were injured as two factions of the unit BCL locked in a clash on Tuesday.

BCL activists and witnesses said that two groups– one led by Chattogram College BCL president Mahmudul Karim and the other led by general secretary Subhash Mallik Sobuj– engaged in clashes over establishing supremacy on the college campus.

The injured BCL activists are Shafayet Hossain Raju, Jahid Ovi, Md Afnan, Wahidur Rahman and Md Sadat.

The injured are the followers of Chattogram College unit of BCL president Mahmudul Karim.

Mahmudul Karim told New Age that followers of Subhash Mallik Sobuj carried out an attack on his followers on the college campus on Tuesday noon.

‘At least five BCL activists were injured in the attack,’ he said.

Subhash Mallik Sobuj could not be reached for comments despite several attempts.

Manjur Kader Manju, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar police station, told New Age that several were injured during clashes between two groups of BCL of Chattogram college.

Additional police forces were deployed at the college campus, he said.
