BCL man dies after assault by “upazila chairman” in Natore

A local activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), who was allegedly beaten up by Natore's Naldanga upazila Chairman Asaduzzaman Asad on September 19 died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) today (September 23, 2022).

Jamiul Islam Jibon (24), a member of Naldanga upazila unit BCL, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 1:20pm, said Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, in-charge of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

"We could not save Jibon despite our efforts. He died at 1:20 pm," Dr Abu Hena told our Natore correspondent.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Naldanga Police Station Shafiqul Islam also confirmed the death of Jibon.

According to police, Jibon recently brought an allegation of corruption and irregularity against Naldanga Upazila Parishad Chairman Asaduzzaman Asad during a live stream on Facebook.

Following this, Chairman Asaduzzaman Asad, his two brothers and 4-5 unidentified people beat up Jibon with iron rods and sticks at Ramshakajipur Amtali Bazar in Naldanga upazila around 7pm on September 19, 2022. Jibon's father Farhad Hossain was also beaten up as he tried to protest the attack on his son.

The injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at night, where doctors discharged Farhad Hossain the next day. However, Jibon was sent to the RMCH.

Jibon's mother Jahanara Begum filed a case against Upazila Chairman Asaduzzaman Asad and her two brothers on Tuesday (September 20).
