Protestors doubtful of PM’s ‘no quota’ announcement

Dhaka, Apr 11 (Just News): Demonstrating job seekers and students have expressed their doubt about the implementation of prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s announcement of the annulment of quota system in public service exams.

They said this after the PM on Wednesday said that there will be no quota system in the public services from now on.

“We are upset about the prime minister’s announcement to repeal the quota system. We sought reform, not annulment of the system,” said Yakub Ali, a job seeker.

The agitating job seekers and students further said the quota system is still a necessity as there are many sections of the people who are lagging behind.

Asking why the government is planning to repeal the quota system instead of reforming it, Rashed, another job seeker, said, “Quota system is a necessity for the ethnic minority and differently-abled people.”

About the PM’s announcement, Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokhon Parishad (Action Council for General Students’ Rights) leaders said they will share their views on Thursday morning after reviewing the speech of the prime minister.

Parishad joint conveners Faruk Hossain and Md Rashed Khan said this in the afternoon.
